help with transmmison problem

i have a 91 auto s5, the tranny when bad so i put in another used one in. when i put every back togther and plug in the wire, everything run but when you put it to drive or reverse it doesn't move at all. also when i pull out the tranny i try spining the torque converter, it spin but not smoothley can that casue the car not too move. any idea guys........

I'm assuming you filled the tranny and the torque converter with fluid before putting it on the car Right? If you did you probably need a new tranny.
