Help! transmission problem on 88 vert

Hey people out there,

i just swap the used tranny into my 88 vert..
before i put it on i try shift around..it aint work..so i tot the gear might be stuck and no fluids at all..it came with short shifter..
i try disassembly the whole shifter still the same even wit stock shifter..

normal person when they remove their tranny they alwiz put on 1st gear..

but the tranny i got..was showing free (neutral)
it cant move to the left, up or down, but i shift to the right with alot force.. 5th & reverse..

weird thing is..it on gear with the shifter shows neutral..coz i try moving the shaft it doesnt move put if u press the clutch down it move..

so i started the car without stepping on the clucth the motor stall..because it was on gear..probably on 3th or some..if 1st gear it wont stall..my car was on the air ( 4 wheels)

kick the clutch down them motor idles normal.. release the clutch the wheels start turning and the stall..remember all this the shifter still in neutral post..

i forced it into 5th or rev..it stall straight up..

anyone out there wat could it be??
the gears jammed? forks messed up?
wat shud i check next ?

thanks y'all for advise or comments

cheers

from what i gather based on reading your post, i would first, just for the heck of it, check the shifter bushings. sometimes it can feel like you have a bad trans or that a shift fork has bent or taken a turn for the worse, when in fact the shifter bushings are shot. check those first and post back.

i m an a$$hole..disassembly the SS and had 4gotten to put back the bushing..
yet..it aint work..i have tried using a big a$$ screw driver(flat head) to force the shifter back to free (neutral) i suspected it jammed on 1st gear..

screw that.. i guess the fork might be bent..coz when i shift it to 5th or rev the motor stall and smokes came up to thru the shifter console hole..ii have not put the boot back i guess the smokes were from the CAT..

anyone , do you think its worth tat time to take them apart and rebuilt it ( might be a 1st + 2nd gears fork jammed ).. Fck FEDEX GROUND !!

sorry for long *** post again..

cheers..
