HELP! Should I Buy This FC??

Hi all, I'm new here, I'm from Alberta, Canada.

I've been looking for a project car lately, and I came across this 1988 10AE Turbo model in the local forum. None of my friends really know much about FC's, so I need some help.

The seller wants $2800 cdn, so around $2500 american.
It has 191000KM on the body (about 115000miles) and 58000KM (about 40000miles) on a JDM engine+tranny. Owner claims the engine is very strong, and is pretty much stock.

The good:Has brand new down pipe, mid pipe, clutch (stage 1), master and slave cylinders, and 3" 5zigen catback exhaust.
Seems to be mostly in working order, all the lights work, radio (stock deck) works. Not a huge amount of rust in the wheel wells, I didn't check the underbody however.

The bad:
Body needs alot of work as you can see from the pictures, will definitely have my hands full on that.
Interior isn't great, very large tear in drivers seat bolster.
Needs an alignment, and power steering fluid.
Needs passenger key-hole, and passenger power lock doesnt work.
Exhaust isn't hung properly.
Wouldn't drive today, see below.

First Impression: Went to see it today, it started up first try, no smoke or anything from the exhaust, however we turned it off and then when we went to start it again for the test-drive, it wouldn't start. Owner said he accidently hit the gas pedal and flooded the engine. Wouldn't start even after waiting for 20 mins and giving it a boost. Is this common?????

So anyways, what do you guys think, is this a good deal?
I can realistically only drive it for 2 more months until the roads are covered in snow, at which point I will be taking it off the road for the winter and working on it as much as possible.

Thanks!!! Sorry for such a huge 1st post, if I buy this car you guys will see ALOT of me lol.

Oh yea, pics

I would not buy that, looks like its been to hell and back. And yes its a common problem for stock FC's to flood very easily. You can do a fuel pump rewire mod(cutoff switch), search for it.

i would show up with 1800.00 cash. My points would include the price of new injectors, body panels and interior. That model is an excellent base to start a restoration though. Was the car warm when he started it the first time? The fact that it didnt start will also prob drop down a little of the price. For future reference, pop your egi fuse in the panel mid fender on the drivers side, crank the car, put the fuse back in car should start right up.

At least it's a 10th AE....

If you do buy it, get rid of those heavy *** Toyota Supra wheels...

sounds exactly like my 10ae when i first looked at it. my guy was asking $2900. i paid $2400 cash. i have had mine for two years now. i think the price is fair to ask considering it runs, but definately try to do lower around $2000 because you are definatley going to put a lot of money into it. good luck with whatever you do!

I think it's not too bad a deal for a 10AE, I see them sell for pretty good money when they are nice. I think around 2k-2200 USD would be a decent deal, IF the underside isn't rusty.

Here in Canada they seem to go for a little more than what they go for in the stats. Having said that I would still and try to get the price down

that car is worth alot more if the owner put it on ebay and advertised it as a 10th ae..

the price he is asking seems fair..

and please people STOP LOW BALLING OUR CARS!! Once we give into that, the overal value of these cars depreciates more.. and then when someone pops up asking for a fair ammount, we get people threadjacking and saying thats too much etc etc..

I believe the complete opposite, lowball the **** out of them so rx7s dont go the way of the ae86, they were cheap, then they went ridiculous, and now that all of them are ruined beat all the hell and all the cool parts have been snatched up the cars value has plummeted.

Way too much money. You'll need to put $3,000 or more into it get it in shape. If it's flooding, then suspect the engine. A J-Spec of unknown mileage was installed 60K ago...it could have 160K on the engine at this point.

Fixing the interior is going to be expensive if you intend to match the original. As is repairing the body.

I wouldn't offer over $1500.

Also see the FAQ for the how to buy guides.
