Help removing shift tower from S5 T2 trans?

Help removing shift tower from S5 T2 trans?

Here's a scan of the section from the 91-92 service manual that shows the part #s I refer to below:

I was able to loosen the 17-470 and pull it about an inch to the rear end of the tranny:

But I can't figure out how to completely disengage the 17-490A tube and 17-461 shaft.

It seems like removing that 9922-20-525 pin from the 17-461A would do it, but 17-461A is trapped inside 17-470 and has access on one side where the 17-486A door is. There's only access to that one side of the pin, so I can't see how to get at it to remove and replace it.

Do I need to open up the tranny case to release 17-461 from the inside?
