help: possible buy tomorrow

I'm going to go look at an fc tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get it. When I ran a history report using Consumer Guide Vehicle History Report, everything looks fine except for one thing.

Under history records, as the first entry it shows original owner's dmv title from when he bought it. Then some emmissions stuff up to 2004. In 2004 it shows a title change, then in the following entry it said "reported at auto auction as dealer vehicle." And the last entry is "passed emission inspection," which was in 6-16-04.

My question is, if there is no title transfer entry listed after "reported at auto auction as dealer vehicle," isn't this car still a dealer car?

The guy I'm planning to buy from is a private party and he says the pink slip is in his name. As long as the pink slip is in his name, will I be cool?

He only has the pink slip??? UH, I'd be cautious. Make sure he has a title. If not, have him go to an auto tag place with you and try and transfer the "title" or "ownership" of the car to you. The people at the tag place will tell you for sure. I wouldn't mess around with the bullshit of the guy having you mail out for a duplicate title or anything of the sort. Be prepared to decline on buying the car if the auto tag place declines transferring the title. Just leave it at that.

I didn't ask him if he had the title in his name. I just asked him if he had the pink slip and if it's in his name. I assumed that having the pink slip in your name means having the title of the car in your name. By the history report, it appears that there was a title transfer (I'm guessing to a dealer), and a month later it showed up at an auction. Is it possible to transfer the title after the auction and not have it show up on the history report?

How can someone prove that the title is in their name? Doesn't the DMV send you a card to leave in your car when you register every year? Does that prove the ownership of the title?

If he can't prove it, I'll look into auto tag.

The only question I have is how do you know he's not selling the car someone picked up from an auction. Have seen it done many times where the titled will not be changed to the person showing the car as they don't want to pay sales tax, MV fees. If the cars good, and he produces the title, regardless of name on same, go for it. hand him yhe money after you see the title.

I'm thinking about backing out now. I thinks it's too expensive. It's a 88 gxl with 86k and the lowest he would go is $2700. That's down from $3400. I think I'm going to keep shopping. The reason I was going to go for it was because I was tired of shopping. Pay a little more...time is money. I don't have any days off so my schedule is pretty tight.

2700 is way to much. The NA is a POS and you will have it for a week and want a turbo so do yourself a favor and just by a T2.

My intentions for an n/a fc was to learn about rotary engines, rebuild them, and just get a general feel for them. Once I'm comfortable rebuilding them, I plan to buy an fd or fc tii with blown motor for cheap and rebuild it. This way, I end up with a fast car and a lot of hands on experience.

I've had opportunities where I could have gotten a tii, but that means it would be a few months before I can get enough money to rebuild, if the motor blows.

basically, na means more money to mess around with the car.

Put down the crack pipe... many people prefer non-turbos over turbos due to the better balance, and considerbly more reliable and less confused engine.

If you plan to buy a Rex to learn about Rotories then why buy a good one??? What I mean to say is, why buy a top notch for top dollor?? Buy one that needs your handy work to fix up and save the doe rae me for mods.

The Title thing??? If the guy is attached to a dealer somehow. He'll have a DMV clerk at that dealership. He'll take you over there when he is sure that you want the car. OR he just bought it and is reselling it and the DMV things have not gone through yet.

The BEST thing to do?????? Go to AAA pay the 50 bucks for membership. I you decide to buy the car take the guy with you to AAA and let them handle the whole thing right there. If there is a problem Their (AAA) computor will tell you. If no problems with the title, Then all the forms with all the signatures and all the B@#$ Sh@#$ red tape is DONE. You walk out of there knowing your the new owner. You'll pay $100 after you see how much BS goes on without AAA

Yeah but i don't think those guys who want to "stay NA" mind getting it handed to them on a regular basis. And then we have another "how can I make my NA faster" thread and once they realize that the headers and wiring open the 5/6 ports are just not getting it done we have the "how to turbo my na" thread. Just trying to give the proper advise to younger members in advance to help them save time and money in the long run.

I don't know... I have stomped a couple Turbos in my area in stop light races when they thought they were all hot... and they are all amazed when I open the hood and there is no snail or nitrous lines.

Now, I know I would loose against most modifed turbos... but then wining a drag race in a RX-7 is hardly my idea of a fun Saturday night. Maybe if I was 16 or 20... nah even then I drove the twistys.

And lets face it, as a first RWD car, most under younger drivers are way underskilled for the power in a Turbo Rx-7. That's why you see so many of the lame "I wrecked my car" threads.

just make sure you get it checked for leans.

leans are previous debts the car has caused, and tells you if it is wanted by a bank for payment.

i say get the car as your first rx-7....get used to the rx-7 way and then get a TII and mod it how you would like... i paid way to much for my car but i love it. its an 89 vert with 89000 miles. bought it december 1, 2004 for $3000. december 8 it blew a coolant seal (already had the problem didnt know about it). now its at Banzai racing getting rebuilt ,streetported and acouple of other things for another $3000 but i love the car.

if the guy has the title and goes with you to transfer it and it works get the car...imo.
