help please, complete loss of electrical

alright, so i'm going down a little bumpy road and i see the volt meter jumping all over the place, when i stop it stops. i shut the car off to see if it drops any(to see if the alt's charging or it's on battery) and when i go to turn it back on NO ELECTRIC FOR ANYTHING. so i get out and look at the fuse block(main block with the 80 amp fuse and those) and and they are all good. but for some reason i touch the wiring below them and i hear realys come to life, so i fuddle around with it some more and finally get it so the car has power again. now does anyone have any clue what the problem or solution is? i have a 2200 mile trip comming up at the end of next week so any help is great. thanks

on the main fuse in the engine compartment the fuse is "bolted" in place. Make sure those bolts are tight. Also, Check your battery cable for tightness and corrosion.
