Help please

I just recently purchased my 1988 GTU, and i need to do a couple things before it will drive. Im looking for some help on how to accomplish these things.

I need to replace or have the clutch resurfaced. On a 1-10 scale how hard, and what tools do you need (dont have any of my own tools yet, always used my dads)

I need to replace the sun roof, because the front edge and part of the side rotted, and it leaks water. Again, what tools, and how hard would you rate it?

Those are the only things that NEED to be done, but I have a laundry list for it already of things that I would LIKE to do, so that I can have some fun autocrossing it.

Any and all help is appreciated, as my name suggests, I am a rotary noob.
Thanks,
Jasen

it'll be a hell of a waste of time to resurface the clutch. just get a brand new racing clutch kit and put that on your car. if you have the tools for both those jobs, the work will be easy if you're a handy guy, but a real pain in the ***. you're gonna have to either take out your engine (which is the hard way) or take our your tranny to do any work on anything, which will be basically impossible without the proper tools which will cost you a couple hundred (some jacks and jack stands and sprocket wrenches at minimum). if you get a new clutch kit and take it to a somewhat trusted mechanic shop, they'd only charge around 500 to have the whole job done for you (clutch masters is the place that i'd recommend). the sun roof you can fix yourself with some regular hand tools, so that one should be a breeze if you're somewhat of a handy guy. there's my two cents; good luck with everything dude....

Well i know how to get to the flywheel and the clutch, the easiest way for me would probably be remove the Y pipe and drop the tranny straight down. The advantage i have (or disadvantage since the car wont move, but by god it runs!) is that i go to an auto tech school, so if i can get it there i can have them do the work for free. I do have 2 jack stands and 2 ramps. But I dont any tools.
The sun roof though, there is no fixing. Its a rotted through enough that it would be easier to just buy a new one, i just want to know what tools i need to remove the panel so i can get a new one from Pick N Pull.
Thanks for the suggestion on a clutch, any particular clutch you would recommend? ACT, Exedy, etc.?

when i said "fixing" the sun roof i meant taking it off and getting a new one. i'm not one hundred percent sure on what tools you'd need or how to do the job, but i'm sure all you need is basic hand tools (screw driver, a couple of wrenches or a sprocket wrench, pliars maybe). as for the clutch recommendation, i would get an act if i were you. i'm not sure if act makes the same clutch that they have for the fd, but if you find a street/race act clutch ("street" is in the model name of the clutch), then buy that one. it should be around 500, and it can support up to 402 hp, which is i would think a good enough clutch kit assuming that you're not gonna go krazy with your rx-7 for a while, haha. let me know if you have any other questions, but i hope everything so far has helped out....

It has helped. Okay then, tomorrow im going to go out and use the emergency sun roof open tool figure out what i need, and drive up to the pick n pull to get a new one. After buying some tools at sears first. And ill look into that clutch, though for the moment, all it needs to do is move and ill be happy. Thanks for your help.

maybe after its moving and i get it to a few shows (and fix my front fender) i can try to get some sponsors, but then i would like a million dollars and a new girl every night of the week too...
