HELP!!! overheating now car won't start

Overheated with electrical problems...???
this morning I got into my car and it was really cold (like 14 degrees). And I started my car (87 TII) and started driving... well I heard my fan kick on and I was overheating, and then my radiator hose exploded. (not as bad as it sounds)

I replaced the hose and now my car won't start? any ideas why... it starts but only runs for like 5 seconds then it clicks like I just turned the key off but it's not the sound of the starter selenoid.

I think the CLICK sound is coming from the harness next to the steering column used to unflood the engine.

Anything would be great cause my 7 is just sitting along side the road 10 miles away (worried..)

Probably something was drenched in coolant when the hose blew. Specifically, check the connections around the AFM, though I doubt any coolant could get in there...More then likely, there's water in and around your ignition coils.

Possibly a vacuum leak. Did you check to see if the new rad hose you bought is put on tight with no leaks?

Also I would suggest checking sensors and connections as aaroncake mentioned above.

If it starts and dies, you have a huge vacuum leak somewhere. Check for a broken hose somewhere. Check the turbo inlet duct if it came loose off the turbo.

problem electrical not vacumm

I'm pretty confident it's not a vacuum leak I know how that works... I'm almost positive it's electrical... cause when it turns over fine and runs without stuttering then a solenoid or something clicks (not the starter) and dies...

I read something about a solenoid resistor and I thought maybe that would be something someone could tell me about since it's in the path of the coolant when the radiator hose blew. it's located directly under the MAF and since I ditched the stock air box it's a very good possiblity that it was drenched in coolant.

anything on this or another idea would be great...

cause I need to get the 7 back on the road asap (daily driver/only car)

I think its most likely the starter. Replace the starter or hit it or something. Also my car didnt start once and my friend got it to start for me, said it was something about a Turbo switch that was flicked down. Im not so sure about that one.

same exact thing happened to me too. Someone broke into my TII to take my tape player. They did something, now my idiot lights, dome light, security light and stuff are all intermittent. My clock finally went out. Anyone have any clue on how to fix this?

I think he is referring to the AFM (air flow meter) inside the stock airbox. If it is loose or not on tight your car may not idle.

hey ya the afm if it is not in or there is leaks in it the car will start for like 3-5 secs then shut off check that make sure everything on that airbox or intake is hooked in tight and check all hoses

You need another person to start the car while you stand over the engine with your head at the intake and such, checking for air/sucking/open sounds. It's hard to start it then run to the front and check in 3 seconds! Definately soudns MAF/intake/vacuum related to me though! I'd bet your life on it!

thanks a lot everyone you've got me back on the road... turns out the MAF (AFM) wasn't plugged in, well it was but the metal clip around the out side was missing so when I'd lt go of the MAF it was lay on the wheel well causing it to unplug. Thanks so much...
