NH Help with overcharging problem

Ok this is what I did, alternator belt broke and i drove about ten miles. I replaced the belt, jump started the car and now Im cooking the battery at 16v. Haynes manual says replace voltage regultor, but wouldnt it be easier to replace the altenator. And would this solve my issues or is there an easier solution that im overlooking.

The voltage regulator cost 23 dollars (28 with shipping). How cheap can you get a rebuilt or new alternator for??????

Some soldering skills required for installing the VR. Having a butane torch also helps. Use to heat the rear bearing housing on the alternator.
