it sounds like youre running rich..not too big of a deal but your gas mileage might go down a little bit, and you might pop some nice flames

Welp if it stinks then more then likely ur cat is either shot or not there. Welcome to the rotary, they always stink.

If you take off the cat and put on the header it will probably smell even worse. Smelly exhaust is just a fact of life with an RX-7.

I used some gasket remover on my intake a while back... It smelled almost like urine for about 100 miles... Then it burned off... Maybe the guy that sold you the header used some of that on the header? Just a thought...

a bad cat will stink like rotten eggs. unburnt fuel smells horrible and will make your eyes water.

Yeah I bought new cats for my 7 and they smelled for a good 500 miles before they broke in. But the cats can smell bad when they get hot and a cheap replacement will not take the heat of a rotary very well and will smell too.

replace the o2 sensor... it is a $17 part and will save you gas mileage and fix your A/F mixture problems. even if it does not fix the problem it will help in other departments. it did reduce stench on my car though.

make sure the EGR valve is intact. check for exhaust leaks BEFORE the cat (ie cracked manifold, rusted piping etc..). make sure the charcoal canister is intact.
