Question HELP! new starter motor, and still starter doesnt spin!!! WTF??

well yesterday i was driving it for like 30 mins, went home, and about an hour later i tried to start it up but it doesnt, its an 87 NA and the volts on the battery was at 12, so i assumed it was the starter, so i pulled it out and left the wires connected, and all i get is one click per turn of the key, the starter didnt spin! so i go to kragen with my starter, they tell me its dead, so i got a a NEW one, then i go home installing the new one and the starter doesnt spin either, so WTF??? helpppppppp!!!

oh yah all my fuses seem good, have a lil mini jumper to help jumpstart the car, still no luck, engine not dead cuz i can turn over by hand, have plenty of fuel, somebody please help me!!!

test the starter by jumping the ignition plug.

The easy (and SCARY!) way is to take a long rubber handled scrwe driver and touch the main connection/terminal to the little terminal on the solenoid.(I believe it's the main positive line which touches the center small plug/forgot already even though I did this 2 weeks ago)

It shoudl crank the engine over.

MAKE SURE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING RUN OVER!

If that works then you have something wrong with the ignition switch or contacts.

Oh yeah.
Make absolutely sure that the L shaped ring terminal for the positive doesn't touch the side of the solenoid itself or you'll have a brand new ARC'd hole in the side of it and a nice fire to say hi to.

Don't ask how I know

lol, that sounds kinda risky, but however, i just recently thought about the starter relay, any way to determine if its good or not? mine just looks like the typical 16+ yr old unit, discolored and u cant read the writing on it lol.

i had a dying battery and it also showed 12 volts, but when i tried to crank it, it would just click and not do anything..
when batteries start to die they can hold 12 volts just fine, but put out like 0 amps when there is enough of a load put on them.. so your stereo and stuff will still work but the battery actually doesnt have enough amps to crank a starter...
get the battery tested, thats my 2 cents.

good news and bad news, good thing is my car starts because i tested my dads battery from his car and it started right up, but then i noticed there was coolant spitting around the pulley area right next to the fan, some coolant got on the floor and some actually spits in the air and hits my alternator, which prolly didnt charge my battery properly and why the battery died, but now i got this coolant leak , i couldnt really figure where its coming from but i hope its just a lower radiator hose and not something serious, has anyone had coolant spit? theres coolant all over my driverside strut tower as well as the pulley area and some on the floor, can anyone verify this?

oh yah and i have never overheated the car, temp gauge just goes to 1/4 of the gauge and never higher than that but the coolant buzzer sometimes comes on when i start it up for the 1st time of the day and goes away like in a few mins, so i doubt i didnt do any internal damage to any seals.

I'd go with the water pump, could just need a gasket or tightened down, or it might need to be replaced.

Just replace the water pump, when it starts to pee, it's time. And just get one from kragen about $30. Screw that OEM stuff, might as well do the hoses too.
Luck
