HELP need review on engine builder and info on ported engines asap, thanks!
I know i posted this thread already, but i thought that with a different title, it might get more views, and more responses, cause i really need a response asap.
hello all, i am going to be getting a rebuilt motor for my 91 non -turbo within the next week and a half or so. I would love to have it done down in san diego, but i just got done with school here in Santa Rosa (an hour or so north of san francisco) and i was curious if anyone has any input, good or bad, on these two places:
1)Pinneapple Racing (in oregon)
2)Ricks Rotary Performance (pleasonton [bay area], CA)
I want to take advantage of the 5yr/60,000 mile warrenty that pinneaple racing provides, and it seems that Ricks Rotary in Pleasonton is the only place with a reasonable price that will install rotary engines that arent from their own desired dealer. Any input would be great.
Also, does anyone here have a street ported 2nd gen engine??? If so can you answer a few questions for me:
1)Is there really a significant or noticable power increase?
2)Have you noticed any problems with your engine as a result of porting?
3)How is gas mileage? (i get **** for gas mileage right now, so a mile or two less isnt going to kill me)
4)Is passing smog an issue? (this is a real big one)
5)Any other helpful info you have on your ported engine would be great (i.e. logetivity, idle, noise, overall problems).
PS. has anyone ever failed or passed the smog test with a ported engine? OR is porting going to no matter what fail me? I plan to get a mild street port, nothing crazy.
Thank you all, any help would be great.

1a) Pinneapple is a popular name and I hear good things about them
1b) porting by itself doesn't help much. You need to upgrade the chip or go with an aftermarket computer to retune the car.
2b) a mild port won't hurt, but anything above that does shorten engine life
3c) gas milage is not hurt that much. If your getting sucky fuel economy right now I'd suggest a full tuneup. I'm getting 18-24mph.
4c) no if you tune it right with a port the performance cat will pass you

Reference your other post .. By the time you get your engine out of your car, broke down to a small block, sent to your rebuilder of choise, and ready for the whole process I will have smog results easily. Its no day long process. You might as well at least get started if your going to do it.. and decide on a port job or not between now and when its ready for that. To do things right its quite time consuming. for instance ... don't street port a motor and take **** all apart without new seals front & rear in your tranny, I am sure you should prolly upgrade your clutch now, your going to need to replace half of your vacuum lines and all those goddies also .. you got alot of work ahead of you, unless you take your car in to have the whole process done ... and that will cost you a mint@!
If you are really cncerned about smog... DON'T port your motor. I am rolling the dice, but if I fail ... I have a buddy thet will put my 87 in my 88's place on the machine. But I plan o pass fair and square, I think I got it all worked out.
