help with my front differential mount

i keep getting a noise that sounds like a pop or clunk from the rear of my car, i have looked down there and checked my differential mount and its not broken, but what i did notice was that it seemed like i'm missing a "washer" where the differential mount attaches to my crossmember/underbody (dunno what its actually called, its the **** that looks like a "y" where the brake rotors are attached) ..... well someone told me that i should have something like a washer down there, i don't know what it looks like which is why I'M POSTING A PIC SO YOU GUYS CAN LET ME KNOW IF ITS THIS OR NOT

also it looks to me like there is a crack there, not sure if its just me or if that's just the way that part of the car looks.




all the info i can get on this would be appreciated so that i don't have to spend any more money on this problem.



the differential mount is hitting my underbody and creating a BIG dent and sounds like my car is gonna break, i even went out and bought a new competition front differential mount from mazdatrix thinking it was the mount that was broken, guess i'll be installing the new competition mount if i have to take the underbody down huh?

yes that is broken.... my only advice to you is to change it out NOW.... a buddy of mine called me over to help him with his cause he just snapped it in two after an upgraded turbo (too much power).... and because of this the bolts on it were impossible to get too and took many hours of cussing and prying but we got it out... change it asap and it should fix the problem... and dont drive the car as to not break it completly or do any other damage... just drop the subframe enough to get to it and you should be able to get it out.... dont take anything off just lower the subframe... look for a write up on it and you should find one but its easy enough to do without a write up

u sure it can be worked on without dropping the subframe? cuz that part that looks cracked is part of the subframe, not a bolted on part, its ACTUALLY welded on to the subframe

I can't see the pic clearly enough to see whare it's actually cracked. Your best bet is to drop the subframe a few inches and get a better look at it - you may fin the sibframe is what's cracked, and you could have it repaired or you could find another one. If it's the mount itself you'll be able to change it then. It's not that hard to lower it - unbolt the 4 nuts that hold the subframe to the body, take the nut/bolt out of the rear camber vertical link, and let your jack down. I did it without the springs/struts in the car, so I don't know if you will have to unbolt them or not. They should give you some play though, so you may not have to.

This same thing happened to my when the "washer" you are talking about wasn't installed as well. It was the bracket on the subframe that cracked, although I did have it welded up while it was still on the car.

Your best best is to get a pinon snubber, and to weld the front differntial mount so its solid... all the torque from that V8 will eat up the stock designed rear suspension.
