Angry Help! My Car Just Died: Turbo Ii

I drove my car to the train station today.. It was running perfect. It sat in the cold all day and would not turn over. I figured it could be a dead battery -I went and purchased a new battery and still nothing. It wont even crank - nothing. All the lights work etc. I dont know what it could possibly be. Any ideas????

I did not check the starter. I dont think that's it, but I will check. I am going to have the car towed to a local mechanic.... I'm not sure what to look for with respect to the starter. Is the starter a common problem>?If there is a bad connection on the battery wires - Would the lights still work and the car not start?

The bad connection could be at the starter itself.

okay - I'm following you. See, when I first went to start the car it was dead. This is why I went out and got a new battery. I put the knew battery in and it still did not start, but lights etc powered up. Do you stil think it could be the starter?

could be the kick down switch on the clutch.

sometimes the switches kinda wear. To start one TII i had to move the cluctch up and down a bit to make the correct contact.

but prolly somethings a bit simpler like a main fuse or the starter.

i would check for a short (since dead battery)

there a a lot of things it could be. If you have a haynes manual or can get ahold of one they have a trouble shooting guide.

<Sesshourmaru> When you say move the clutch up and down - I assume you mean with your foot and keep trying to turnover, correct? I am going to check the starter tomorrow for sure.

yeah keep it on the start position while u move the clutch up and down 1-2 inches or so (doubt that's the prob but is easy to test ).

it's funny to watch ppl try to start my friends car b/c of that.

Awesome. I'll give it a whirl. Hey, if I ever get this car running again i was thinking about upgrading the turbo. Can I just pop in a HYBRID turbo (replacing stock turbo) do I need other parts?

also try and listen for any types of sounds.
ie a clicking

also pop the hood my get some one to turn the key and you listen in the engine bay and see if you hear anything.

alsoif you get power. try and push /pull start the car.
if you are able to start it that way then it is definety starter related...ie wiring/bad starter

There are no sounds whatsoever. Honestly, I think I am going to post a thread and sell the car. These RX7's seem like crap boxes if you want the truth. This entire web site is about countless problems. I NEVER seen anything like it. I should have modified my DSM. UGH.

I asked about the turbo upgrade yesterday pal. I replied to messages cause I would not mind getting the turbo upgraded and the car running again so I can resell it!!!!!! I was kidding about the CIVIC... Geesh, but I think a nice AWD TURBO GSX would do the trick - No doubt you guys rock and know your ****;. I jumped into a project I know nothing about. ROTARY is one MESSED UP ENGINE. I just want to get the car running and sell it.

<VMB> Before you go name calling and say I am pathetic - You should read the date(s) when messages were posted etc. I was looking to upgrade my turbo some time ago and continue to research. I will get the car running again and either sell it with or without the upgrade. I appreciate the feedback and suggestions etc. This is just not the car for me. I can modify something else not have the worries if the car will start properly or dump oil in the gas tank on each re-fill. I mean guys think about that? WE ARE DUMPING OIL in our CARS to keep it from breaking.... I should have just paid the $811 and got the OMP

hee-hee. Who the hell knows eh? Could be the ignition, alternator, bad wires from the battery or a loose nut behind the wheel. Who knows right? I'll know once my mechanic gets on it. THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE for your input.

***one MESSED UP ENGINE***

If you can't even get a car to start, a simple starter problem, why would anyone in the whole wide world think you know squat about engines? You obviously don't.

Uh *EXHALES*

If the engine doesn't even move when you try to start it, check:

-Battery
-Starter and make sure there is power on the starter ( constant 12V)
-Clucth sensor
-Igntion key switch
-Carbon locked engine

Since you replaced the battery, and claim that no sounds are coming form the engine when attempting to start it up.

Is either the starter, clutch sensor, ignition switch. My bet is on the starter or clutch sensor, both of these issues are common on any +10 years old vehicle.

BTW - The starter is a made by mitsubishi!

rotary are messed up engines

i think its more like your the messed up one !!!!!

you dont have a clue how a rotary engine works so you decide to blame the car ......
i hope you sell the car and it gets a real owner

ps you deserve a civic

Yes, I agree with the above and so does my mechanic. He suggested it be the starter, but I wont know till tomorrow. I'm not blaming the car, but c'mon here - Its been one problem after the next. CIVICS suck. I would never buy a CIVIC. I do love the RX7, the looks, the sounds etc. Its why I purchased it. I just dont know about all of these problems. Perhaps I should just dump in $1000 and get as much done as possible: New alternator, starter, msd ignition, ground wires, re-wire new hoses etc. Buy a new clutch. See, this is what I'm trying to get at here. One thing goes, I fix it and presto something else goes. I hate to say it, but you dont find these sort of probs with... ouch.. hate myself for saying it, but here goes.. a civic. they do run.

Well bro, I hate to be the one that is going to break it for you....but

ANY +10 years old car will have issues, specially if it gets abused

If you are not mechanically inclined, a +5 years old sports car is not for you, unless you are willing to pay. Sports car will break when abused, and specially when old and abused at the same time.

No your right. I was under the impression that the rotary is a solid engine etc. I know its not the car itself and its old. This just sucks. I went from a nice 1997 ECLIPSE all done up and it was fast and my friends said I was nuts for selling it. But in my crazy mind, they were nuts as I was moving on to bigger and better... RX7. Perhaps I should bit the bullet today. Tell my mechanic to just do it all. Add the ALTERNATOR, GROUND WIRE KIT, HOSES etc. New Starter. Then I can turnaround and get top dollar - After all, it is a 10th Anniv Ed.

Based on your comments, I kind of get the feeling that you are not very good with cars...

IMHO, don't spend $$$ on the car, just get a quick fix and sell it. If you wish to keep it, get with somebody arounnd your area (I am sure somebody from here is more than willing to help you out) and fix it as it comes.

Your 97 Eclipse was on its way to trouble too...

Hmmm... I'm going to just dump in the $$ and get it running again. Do all the electrical etc. See how it runs and go from there.
