Help My Car is Dying Needs Engine

I have a 1988 Mazda Rx7 Convertible. It is black. I love this car, but now the engine needs to be replaced at only 122 K miles. I am devastated. I was just getting ready to sink some money into getting new tires, a new roof, because the old one is torn and replace my drivers side window regulator, and I have bought used fuel injectors to be installed. I don't know what to do. I don't know whether to rebuild, buy a new engine and spend much more than the car is worth or part out this car. It will break my heart to do that. This is my third rx7 and my favorite one. I wanted to redo it, but I have to be practical. Any advice out there for me?

Hey,

Yeah sad news if you love then rebuild it. It worth it. Hah my engine lasted 2000km before a seal gave the face i was doing 260km/h might explain some of that. I would rebuild new engines are damn expensive and often no better. Just get a good rebuild.
How are you sure your engine needs to be replaced??

Cheers
Chris

REBUILD IT!!!. My T2 is the 4th sports car I have owned, and I rebuilt i when I got it at 140,000 miles barely running long enough to make it 2 miles to my shop. I had no prior experience with rotaries, but had rebuilt the piston driven engines in my eclipses so many times that it almost became a ritual or rite of passage.

The hardest part is actually getting over thinking that you can't do it. The next biggest thing is that if you don't have the right tools buy them anyways, as you may make a habit out of tearing it apart!!!

The best piece of advice I can offer for doing this is to get all your parts before even touching your car, replace oil pump while engine is out (better safe than sorry) AND THE MOST IMPORTANT IS TO KEEP YOUR REBUILD TIME DOWN. FROM THE TIME YOU LOOSEN THE FIRST BOLT, TO THE TIME YOU TIGHTEN IT BACK DOWN AGAIN YOU HAVE MANY BOLTS AND PIECES AND (corner seals suck) LINES AND **** TO REMEMBER PROPER PLACEMENT AND ROUTING OF. It is a real pain in the *** to forget where the long bolt went, and have to try to figure which bolt to pull out of which hole to get the long bolt to fit. What sucks even worse is when you have to completely dissasemble the damn thing to rethread a hole you stripped putting that damn long bolt (I hate tranny case bolts) in the short hole(if you do this it's easier to get a heli-coil from NAPA parts store).

GOOD LUCK
