Exclamation Help me understand

Ok heres the thing, i dont want to get flamed and b*tched at, but how is it that there are kits to add turbos to hondas and all other imports or nos and other induction, but not for rx-7's, i dont under stand why adding a turbo or nos to a n/a rx-7 will blow the motor, and adding a turbo to honda doesnt blow there motors, if i am wrong then please correct me, but all i ever hear when i am at the track, is honda guys talking about getting turbo kits and adding nos..i know there is a big difference in the motors but isnt a n/a just that. Anyways please shed some light on me

Peace

I agree with you about the adding a turbo part. But there are NOS kits for NA 7s. I can give you some sites if you want them. There are people who have put NOS on their NAs on this forum. Check out www.fc3s.org and look in the "How-to's" section. NOS does not blow motors-stupid people with NOS does.

Hey,

There have been various turboed N/A rx7's around, and various kits by individuals, but if you look at any turboed honda, unless they have had some other engine work done (ie, lower compression pistons), they arent running over 8 lbs of boost.

The same is with the N/A rx7s that have had some forced induction work done.

you can run higher, but your engine wont last long.

NOS is still debated, i wont touch on that one.

THe reason there arent really any turbo kits out there is because the RX7 also had a turbo version in STOCK form, so there isnt a need.

If you are contemplating turboing, I would go ahead and sell your car and start with a turbo. There are several things that keep the N/A from having a helluva lot more power via nos or turbo, like the rest of the drivetrain. The Tranny and diff start breaking at about 250 flywheel horsepower, the fuel isnt sufficient enough to run higher compression or boost, etc.

hope this helps ya some.

thanks

Thanks for the replies, i am thinking of putting a sneaky pete nos system in my car...a small bottle hidden, just to use on turbo cars..i must say even on a packed night at the track there are maybe 2 import cars that can take me on the track, but for turbos they smoke me
last time i took my car to the track i ran a 16.5 this is with a broken strut and with my 17" chrome concept neeper fly's also first time i ever ran my car, so i was nervous as hell. next month i will be getting some bf goodwrench t/a drag radials for my factory wheels and the rb pulley, headers, looking into an electric fan, not sure which is best for me, and the apexi afc...then we will see what my car runs, i am hoping to get into the 14's, oh yeah i am going to fix that strut, sounds nasty when i let off the gas and go, makes a loud banging noise lol.

Peace

The deal with our cars is that you have to tune whatever you do to the car correctly or you can easily have problems. In a rotary if you don't do things right, and you ping once, it can be all over, where as a pisston motor can sustain that type of "lack of tune" better. Owning a rotary that has power and is reliable means you know how to tune, or you car enough to tune I ran a 100 shot of NOS on my Project 86 at one point and nothing bad happened. That's because I had the car tuned right.

Well

I am not the best at tuning, that is why i turn to you guys. I go to the fc3s site all the time, my mechanic is my best friend, and has done everything to this motor, so he has learned alot about the rotary motor, we do alot of research here on the forum. He is used to building hot rods and has alot of knowledge in motors and tuning. I plan doing alot more research before adding nos.

Peace
