help me out, have a few questions

Hey everyone, im a tsi driver, and im done with the damn "DSM problems". I was talking to my buddy who has a 3rd gen single turbo rx7. I was talking about rx 7's, and I like the second gen bodys more. I was wondering what would be my best bet for a 2nd gen rx7. I've heard bad things about rx7's, but come on I own a dsm, so im used to problems. My buddy was saying to buy a 2nd gen and then drop a turbo 2 engine in it, would that be a good thing? Like I said, I have no idea about rotary's. So i would like all the help I can get. When my tsi is running, it goes a 13.1, I was wondering how hard is it to get a rx7 to go that. I had a rwd car b4 my tsi. I loved the rwd, so i want it back. I was going to do a sr swap inthe 240, yeah like everyone else. but if i like who cares. If anyone could help me find a nice white 2nd gen, that be nice. so just wanting to idea's/ help. thanks everyone

Note: you can find a TurboII which is a 2nd gen model built from 87-91 in North America, which has the stock turbocharged engine, which i believe you are referring to. Also, if people are telling you theyve had bad experiences with rotaries its because they dont know what they are doing. There are users on this forum with upwards of 200,000miles on a N/A... It all comes down to how picky you are about maintenance. And forced induction will decrease the lifespan of a piston engine too, not just a rotary. A 13.1 will be achievable with a TurboII, there was only 1 N/A 2nd gen to break 13 seconds on stock ports, I dont even remember seeing slips for confirmation. Try the for sale section at the bottom of the main page or your local auto trader for classifieds. Aaron Cake has awesome writeups for buying both a turbo and a non turbo 2nd gen Rx7. The non turbo one can be found here http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/buy1.htm and the link to the turbo buyers guide is near the top of that page. Happy hunting.

IF that is the case, you should read this. If you're straight out buying your car, look for a turbo II model. UNless of course you find that near mint nonturbo model that would be worthwhile to convert. You will usually come out ahead to start with a turbo model, though.
