I've read all these threads and posts for a while and just joined the forum. I am looking for an RX-7 but there just aren't any in minnesota (stupid vikes) but i am planning to visit an ex of mine in florida in the summer i also plan to bye one when im there. I'm looking for a 91 GTUs or GXL todally stock so I can build up on it. What things should I look for when shopping for one?

a GTUs is going to be very hard to find, and they didn't make GTUs in 91 I don't think. 91 was just leftovers since they were planning for the redesign. Just GTU and GXL.
It's not hard to find a stock anything really. I see ads for cars from Florida a lot. What I would recomend is to start checking autotrader or something similar a week or so before you head down. I'm sure there's bound to be something. Then you'll have an idea when you get there. Then check some local listings when you get there.
And be sure to check up with the forum. Just about any question you have can be answered by someone on here.
One very important thing to remember when buying a rex is to get a compresion test before hand. I think everyone on here will suggest that.

GTUs was only sold in 89, with 100 more sold in 90. Best of luck finding one.
1991 had only three models, with different trim packages. The base-model Coupe had all the best hardware from the previous years' GXL's, except the vehicle-speed sensitive variable poer assist steering (they came with the less-complicated and slower-ratio'd engine-speed sensitive variable assist) . The TII (simply called Turbo for 89-91) was also sold that year, as was the convertible. No GXL, no GTU.
1991 is arguably the best year to buy, as they had most of the bugs worked out by then. In addition, they're the youngest of the 2nd gen models, and on average have the fewest miles on them. An 91 TII would be sweet, but a rare bird indeed (not nearly as rare as the 90 GTUs, of course).
