Help me

Im looking into purchesing a 1988 RX-7 turbo II with unknown miles and a recently rebuilt engine. I am going to look at it in a few days and was wondering if i could get some help on common problems i should look for and signs of severe wear. and info would be appreciated. The seller should be returning my call with the miles soon. its a 5 spd, leather, black exterior.... dont know many of the other specs. he is asking 3500 but i think i can get it lower? is that a reasonable price? S.O.S.

mmm id search if i was you,

from what i can tell, most common problems are annoying electircal problems

Well when you start it up, let it warm up, make sure its got good oil pressure, make sure it gets boost, check for smoke on accel and decel,

and just from my experisnce, let it warm up completly, maby even run it a little hard and check to see if the overflow bottle is filling up with coolent and the cap is hissing, that would be a bad sign, there are other things to look for but i dont rember em off the top of my head

i dont know much about rotors but am trying to learn. Should i just sit in neutral and throttle and listen for the turbo to spool? where in the rpm range is the boost the greatest. im ***-U-Ming that there is no boost gauge.

There IS a boost guage on the stock turbo models. It may not be correctly accurate but there is one. Full boost should kick in about 3000-3500 rpms. Like all turbo cars unless its automatic and you break boost, you will never boost in neutral or when the car is not moving even if you rev it up. You have to drive it to build boost.
