HELP!!! I am going crazy..idle problems
Ok this will probally be long but ill try my best to keep it short.
I have a 88 Turbo II (10th AE)..it has idled at 1500 rpm since i got it about a year ago. When it is cold(i.e. when it has been sitting over night). Way it goes is crank it up keep foot on gas to hold it at 1500..after a few minutes it will idle on its own. after that it usually idles by itself at 1500 rpm. It is not a daily driver. That is how it normally goes.
BUT NOW THIS IS WHAT IT DOES
It is my fault but, the alternator belt was loose so i tried to tighten it. Took the intercooler off(to get to the alternator) ended up messing up the alternator. took the alt off..found out i didnt screw the alt up. put the alternator back on..put the intercooler back on. tightened up the power steering and ac belt. didnt start the car or drive it that day. today i go to drive it; and the belts (a/c and pwr sterring) seem to tight..so i deal with that fiasco..get that out of the way. notice that after the car gets warm it doesnt want to idle by itself at 1500 rpm. so i say what the hell and drive it.
This part is not really needed but ya'll will get a laugh out of it..it might matter but i dont think so.
Like i said i drove it like it was just continuing from up above.....drive a lont for a while and notice when i get on boost that there is a wierd noise..best way to describe it is that it sounds like turbo is building boost and it is leaking....that was on a little boost..then i drive some more every once and awhile give it a little boost..then i say what the hell and put all 5.5 lbs to it and when i let off i hear no BOV noise..i am like dam....keep driving and driving and then i am like son of a bitch i didnt tighten down the Two IC hoses. get where i am going and the turbo side of the IC is about to come out of the hose. get everything like it is supposed to be and only had tighten the two clamps because i didnt have a screwdriver..still doesnt wat to idle right.
I get home tighten down with screwdriver and still doesnt wat to idle right...i notice the O2 sensor isnt hooked wire isnt in the end of clamp...redo that and now it still doesnt idle right...took IC back off now and that is where i am. I figured i knocked something loose but i dont see anything....so any advice is appreciated
thanks in advance.

Arent we all?
Check for vaccum lines that might have blown off. A good spot to look is behind the turbo, and above it.

thanks for the replies..but i wouldnt think that any vaccum lines blew off, like due to driving. i was thinking maybe i bumped some while i was messing with the alternator and IC. only thing i didnt really see any vaccum lines with the turbo off..maybe i am jus tblind.
Question:
could driving the car with the IC hose clamps not tightened maybe have caused boost to knock another vaccum line off?
thanks

damn sorry about this..but when i said,
"only thing i didnt really see any vaccum lines with the turbo off..maybe i am jus tblind."
i meant only thing I didnt really see any vaccum lines with the IC off..instead of turbo off.
sorry about that later

Seems you have a idle problem that would best be taken care of by going to page 4B62 of the factory servivce manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com (free download). It sounds like the fast idle cam is not coming off the roller completly. After you do the process, you need to go back and check the tps setting. If the fast idle cam has been reset you can guarantee that the tps will now be off now. They are interrelated. One reason they tell you to completly warm up the car is for the fast idle cam to come off the roller. The cam is contorlled by the thermowax device which needs a good flow of water to it thru that water hose under and attached to the throttle body. Also, since you were messing with the altenator, look and see if the three vacuum hose on hte front of the throttle body are still attached. To make adjustment of the fast idle cam a easier process, chunk to the side for a while the intercooler and go to the HOME DEPOT and get a straight piece of pvc pipe and one 90 degree elbow to take place of the intercooler temporarialy. Cost three bucks. Now you can adjust without comtinualy removing the intercooler and can make adjustments with the engine running, where you could not with the intercooler on. While you are back there with the fast idle screw, make sure that the water thermo valve has its vac lines connected. This mess is related to the double throttle diaphram.
