Help? Engine sputter, timing issues above 1500rpm.

Hey folks. Can't believe I haven't joined an rx forum in the 10 years I've owned my car, but I gotta say she's been damn good to me and still kicking strong at 400,000 + km (second engine). Until now...

The car is an 86' chassis with an 88' 13b swapped in by me 5 years ago... 5 speed.

On to my issue, which I hope ya'll can help out with. About 2 weeks ago I returned home from work and recall that just before turning the engine off it was idling very high (roughly 950- 1050 rpm). Well I proceeded to shut it of taking note. Figures, next day it was flooded and I couldn't start it. So I yanked the EGI Injector fuse and after 5 attempts got her running again. Great! After a couple days I had to do the same thing again... but I warmed it up enough then did an oil change and replaced all 4 spark plugs (previous plugs were completely fried). I also started screwing with the idle adjuster at the top of the dynamic chamber. Dumb move it turns out...

...so, the idle went all whacky. So I went out and bought and inductive timing light (car powered). Started the car up, warmed it up and adjusted the idle to 750 on the dot. Great, now it idles like a dream, but it sputters any time I apply gas. Usually over 1500-3000 rpm. My other big problem is that the yellow and red markers on the main pulley used for timing markers are slightly rusted over and I can't find them. So even with the timing light plugged in properly I have no basis with which to adjust the timing. Just some rough rusty spots. Which might be good enough, but I can't be certain.

I have checked the crank angle sensor, plug wires, and coils for proper resistance and they all check out fine. Battery is fully charged, new oil, 1/4 tank of gas.

This **** thing is that 2 days ago when I first adjusted the timing it worked amazing and ran better than ever. I even took it around the block 3 times without any hesitation or sputtering at all. But today just before heading out the fast idle didn't kick in right away until it started warming up... now it just sputters above 1500rpm again.

I have an extra air flow sensor I can swap in on Sunday, but could it be the injectors? I also have an extra intake manifold with 4 injectors (all used), but there just in case... Or maybe it's something else? I'm really stumped. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Bo
