Exclamation Help Convert an FD addict into an FC junkie!!!

Ok, my friend is looking into buying an FC as a track toy do drive and he already has an FD (spoiled FD owners can never have enough).

We looked at one today and it's a base model 87. It's a 4 lug and is bare bones base. As for mods, it has an edelbrock carb (at least the air filter says that but I think it might be a holly), a racing beat IM and what looks to be a racing beat header. I didn't check the header for the logo because I'm an idiot and the rest of the exhaust is a straight pipe w/ no mufflers. The suspension looks like it has upgraded springs and the shocks are blue.

The car doesn't start but it does turn over. We though it might be flooded and when I pulled out a spark plug it was wet with oil and fuel. The guy wants 900 for it. Cosmetically the car is crap but it's going to be a track toy anyways so it's not like we need it in pristine condition.

My friend wants to convert it to ITB in the future and has a budget for around 3500 in cash, not including the money he would make by selling the carb setup it has now.

Do you guys think this is a good deal? How much could he make from selling the carb? Should he just forget about it when you consider that it has the 4 lug setup? How much money would he have to invest to make it a 5 lug (or should he even care about it)? Thanks for any opinions

sounds to me like you'll need to rebuild the engine (or perhaps run a carb cleaner like seafoam through it) make sure you're not buying a fubared engine already. If it is fubared you might be able to talk him down a few hundred or so.

If it's in terrible cosmetic shape and it doesn't even RUN I wouldn't pay more than 300

thanks for the advice so far, I'll let him know. I know there's the possibility that the engine's gone but the big thing is that the car has a carb setup and that's the main thing riding on our minds (which is why we assume 800 is reasonable). So given that fact is it worth it? If he sold the carb and RB intake could he make his money back?
