Help Car Will Run But Won't Start

Just bought a 86 RX-7 GL and we towed it home and when the car was going it would start and run but once it slowed and revs dropped it would stall and wouldn't start till it was being pulled again. Totally new engine with only 15k on it. Was running good except has been sitting for 3 months. New dual (Y) exaust...what might be your guesses on what I should do.

Look for a big vacuum leak, or maybe the two big hoses at the intake elbow- one might be off or leaking.

Check the compression too.. but it would have to be really low to act like that.

Do the unflooding procedure:

and do a compression check at your first opportunity. Just b/c she's new doesn't mean she's healthy.

My motor does the samething as yours is doing when its cold. It only has 13 kilometers on the rebuild But compression has raised about 35psi from when I got it. Just not high enough yet.

ok, so now after a day of tinkering the car still won't start but it idles nicely and drives like a dream, but it will start if you fiddle around with the fuel and air intake...it seems like it isnt' getting enough air and too much fuel I don't even notice a hesitation at 3500-4000 rpms ... but ahhh so annoying, it has started like three or four times out of a hundred without any help...with me and my dad fiddling we can get it to start

You say if you screw around with the air filter it starts? Check that the bunch of wires going to the airflow sensor after in securely, also check for vacumm leaks. Your 3500-4000 rpm hesitation is probably a ground problem. Use the search function and search for "3800 rpm hesitation" or something like that

umm...first off I was saying I was happy because I didn't notice the usualy hesitation at the 3800 mark, but anyway, tommorow I will check the wires but I don't think it is a vacuum leak because we took off the whole air filter and got it started the one time and we did check the vacuum hoses, but is it just the two smaller hoses going into the engine? or do you know how many there are? I will look in a manual on iluvmyrx7 and see what I can dig up and go back to searching the forums...haven't found anything yet though

regina, sask, and this morning when we went out there we started it the first two times but then after that it wouldn't start so I am thinking it is just flooding everytime or something to do with the fuel

There are a few guys in Regina. Why not post in the Canadian section that you'd like some experienced help with this and maybe somebody will drop by and help you through this...
