Help, can't get steering boot back on

Am putting a new boot over the rack on the steering arm. I disconnected the tie-rod...popped it off. Unscrewed the end. Slipped the new boot over the threaded end. The smaller diameter side slipped nicely into the shoulder/step.

Now the fun part.....
I'm trying to work the other rubber/plastic end (approx 2" in diameter) onto the alum. fitting. Not going on.

How can I get this thing on? I'm so frustrated...gave up for tonight. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I am assuming that you are talking about that acordian boot? Yeah, I did one on my 91 TII. It was by far the biggest pain in the *** I have experienced on that car.

First, make sure you grease that tie rod end up very well. And keep spraying lub on it when you are working it up the end. It is an amazing bitch. I was posistioned like this.

I had the brake disc over my belly. (Jackstands and jack holding my car up) I then Had my right foot hooked on the pass. side wheel well inside. If I didnt do that I would slide accross the floor when pushing on the boot.

I only weight 132lbs. So If i can do it.....your doing fine.

Also, I had somebody in the car to help. When I would push on the boot I would have them turn the steering wheel slightly to the left (I was doing the left one). That way I could push and htey could help me. It sucked when the effort of me pushing would push the tie rod back into the steering rack.

And when I say push on the boot. I was about to burst I was pushing so hard. I seriously thought I was going to pull every muscle in my body. But I was using leg muscles, stomach, and arms all at the same time.

Finally, at about the last inch of push. I cheated. I got a blow torch and softened up the slidy part That went nicely.
