Help! again. Gauge faces turning on when brake is pressed.

Hey, really, can someone help me? I bought a set of gauge faces with the fun indiglo lights. It requires you to splice a power inverter into your wiring somewhere to power the gauge's indiglo lights. I picked what i thought was the correct wire (white with green) from the connector that goes to the switches next to the instrument cluster, the switches for lights and the blinkers and flashers. Everyting works but when i use the brakes the indiglo gauges come on. What the hell did i do? Help would be great, i'm not a wiring genius, when i put it my new deck i ran the ground through the interior lights (i didn't know i was just supposed to ground it to the body), i ended up driving home in the dark one night with no running lights or interior lights.

You obviously tapped the wrong wire. Try running your own hot wire or tapping off the stereo hot wire.

Tapping off the stereo light wire would be your best bet if you cant find the correct one near the light switches. You must have tapped the brake light wire I guess. BTW Kai he means that when he presses his brakes the gauge faces light up, they are only supposed to light up when the headlights come on, so tapping the stereo hot wire (you mean the positive right) would make the faces always glow. Good luck!

page 15-16 shows the switch you want to be using for your lights turning on and off. you need just +12v and ground right? for the ground, find a chasis screw somewhere. for the +12v you want to use the wire in that diagram that is for the headlights coming on. on the diagram it shows btn and tns should show continuity when the headlights are turned on, ie the switch connects the 2 wires together. the wire you want to tap is the one that recieves current when the switch is on. if you tap the other it will probably always be on. hopefully this makes sense and works for you .

Sorry, I was kinda vague, by "hot wire" I did mean the illumination wire for the stereo or running a relay to make your own headlight switched lead.

If you have one of those light testers with the needle pointed end use that, while turning the parking lights off and on it will tell you what wire is illumination wire.
