Help...about rims/size/understanding

I don't quite get how these rim sizes work....i have an 88 gx and all i know is that the pattern is 114.3x4 ?bolt...i'm looking for some new rims because my phone dial ones are fugly...anyone able to help me understand the things i need to look for when buying rims? like the sizes/tires etc?

assume i know nothing about rim sizes and fittings..because i don't...

So Lets start with what that that first number.
114.3 is the distance from the center of the wheel (in america this is often in inches) in centimeters (Japan runs metric ).
the next number is 4. That is the lug count. How many bolts/lugs your wheels have. That should get you started.

There is also the size of the rims themselves. 10'' 11' 13'' etc.
This is mesured in the diamiter of the wheel. (Can't spell.) basicly the distance from one side of the rim to the other.

just casual driving. I don't plan on autocross anytime soon. I just need rims to replace these ugly phone dial ones...

what does the 4- 17x7 <**4-100**>/114.3 mean in these rims?

It means that they are basically universal 4 lug compatible wheels. That's what I have they fit on both my '01 hyundai and my rx
