Is it cranking over or just doing nothing when you turn the key?

well it sounds like your fuel filter causing the hesitation.probably should replace it anyway.also the battery cables have a tendacy to deteriorate over time check them out and replace if nessisary.

Some causes of hesitation (the ones I've experienced over the years, anyway)-

1) clogged exhaust
2) clogged fuel filter (in tank)
3) bad water thermo sensor connection
4) bad vac leak (didn't manifest itself until the engine was hot)
