CA Hello I need help with a Question about my RX-7

Hi I live in California where the smog ***** control peoples lives.

basically my car has a hard time passing smog. However the only part it is failing is the hydrocarbons. I fear i may need a new CAT. I was wondering if there is a fairly decent way to check if it is functioning properly.

I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

The air pump is designed to raise the efficiency of the catalytic converters. If it's not operational, removed, or the air control valve is not operating, that could be the high hydrocarbon issue. Check your timing as well. Too far advanced and it'll go up.
