It's going to be running past the exhaust manifold, so the rubber probably won't last as long as it might elsewhere, but it'll work.

I think I'd actually rig up some metal pipe to reduce the length of hose needed.

Hmm, now that you mention that it runs past the exhaust manifold (and therefore the turbo) it would probably be best to pick up some lines from the junkyard. (this is on a friends S5 TII btw)

I'm going to JB weld it shut for now I guess, I had a rubber cap crack. And whoever said removing it "for whatever dumb reason"

two words, unnecessary weight.

Between the heat cycling and the cooling system pressure, I wouldn't trust JB Weld either.
Remove the nipple, tap the hole and install a plug.

Weld a cap on the lower rad nipple.

I'm an idiot I was looking at my motor and apparently I looped the heater core lines along time ago. I was mistaken the coolant line that goes to the throttle body. Needless to say that is a big hole to plug on the side of the block.
