Heater motor problems.

hey guys, its cold up here in north idaho and my blower motor isn't working. When i have the fan swith moved all the way right/ turned on full blast, the motor will kick on for about five seconds and then turn off. Also, the only time this happens is instantly when the key is turned on. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this happen on all settings, i.e. defrost, feet, face, etc. Some settings *could* cause a short. How likely it is to happen, I don't know. Sounds like a bad logicon due to the cold solder joints or the blower motor may be dead. Since it works some of the time, I'd lean towards logicon. You can pull yours out to test it according to the FSM which requires a multimeter only. The fix is re-soldering the right connections without breaking anything else while you are in there (difficult and time consuming) or buying a new one (rediculously priced if you can find one). You can also pick one up used and pray the seller was telling the truth when he said it works perfectly.

Sounds like the power transistor in the blower housing is toast.

You didn't say what year/version car this is.

The Heater relay depends on the power transistor working. But the EX-HI relay does not need the power transistor to be good. The power transistor is a part of the blower motor housing. See FSM

See the series five Heating and A/C section to trouble shoot. Also in that troubleshooting section you can determine if the Logicon output to the blower mtr is any good or not. See FSM.

Summers on the way.......right after the next winter gale in May.
