Question Heat Gauge high sometimes is my car overheating?

Hey guys, When driving on the highway i notice that my heat gauge fluctuates to certain points very consistantly. At 70mph or under it stays around the half way mark but if I bring it to 80 or higher it imediatly goes higher like to the 75% mark and stays there. Ive never noticed it going higher than 75% even at 100-120 miles per hour but if i cruise at 80 its always at the over half way mark. Is this bad? Is my engine posibly overheating or is this normal for this speed and rpm?

Something doesnt seem right here. You have an S4 (normal temp area is supposed to be around 1/4-1/3 of the way up) but you're hitting half way? You reaching 75% on an S4 should mean your engines wayy overheating and you should be seeing the effects very soon. That or it could be maybe your coolant temp sensor is messed up. Not sure.

You could tear through the cooling system and hope that its something simple and not a toasted engine seal.

Start with the thermostat(use Mazda), cap, hoses, coolant-antifreeze flush etc.....
