heard a bang near firewall

hi. somethings wrong with my 87tII. when im in first gear and i floor it, around 6k-7k rpm i can hear a bang coming from the firewall. it doesnt happen in any other gear.
does anyone think its my tranny? how do i check the trany fluid? ok, when the car is cold and hasnt been started in a day or two, i start it up and its really hard for me to get it into gear. i have to let it warm up and then really shove it into first....no grinding, and drive for few minutes and its ok. does the bang i hear have anything to do with my screwed up tranny? maybe its the engine mount? the bang kinda sounds like when you knock your wrench or something metal against the firewall. im pretty sure its not the eingine pinging, i have a hks turbo upgrade and hks fmic and small stuff like intake exhaust etc... i also have 850cc secondaries, no method of fuel control, and my egt guage reads a max of 650C in first gear and my a//f guage doesnt say its leaning out. fuel press etc.... are all good. but my shocks are all shot(ST springs and stock shocks for a year and a half now). maybe its my suspension? im going to take it to a shop but i just would like to know what may be causing the bang sound. thanks.

Tranny mount perhaps? Maybe it's the clutch, my clutch makes a noticeable noise when I engage it (I need a master cylinder soon though).

That's all I can come up with.

That definately sounds like a mount. Take it to any car shop, they can tell you if tranny mount is bad. Dont let them replace it though. It might be a rear diff mount also.

the tranny dipstick is located behind the engine. check the level, make sure it's not discoloured or doesn't smell like it's burnt.

That's only for automatics. Manual cars don't have a dipstick, except maybe the driver.
