I have an '88 vert, and I recently blew the factory amplifier for the headrest speakers. I'd like to either fix it or get another. I saw one up online except for the fact this: Mine has the part number "EAA-011A" and the one online is "EAA-011B". The one online is said to be for a 1989-1990 vert, but are the amps really that much different that they couldn't just be swapped? I would imagine maybe the only slight difference is possibly a change in parts/quality of some kind.

Finding the replacement parts to fix the current amp aren't hard (I'm under the assumption the actual amplifier IC's are just dead, since I didn't get any sound out of the system and verified the speakers are still reading 4 ohms) aside from them being backordered, but the cost for each part is $10, and there's obviously 2 of them, which means bare minimum I'd be spending $30, but the one mentioned above online is only $60 shipped.

Thoughts? And please, I want to keep the stock setup, as much as it may or may not suck. I like the controls and want to keep them until I have the time to build my own amplifier setup myself.

 

I believe the S4 amp is a speaker level input and the S5 is a line level. I'm not sure if the connectors are the same either. So no, it's not just a simple plug and play swap. Try the search button to find more info, or check in the audio/visual forum as well

 

My amp is fine though a bit quite. What is broken on my headrest speakers is the control switch. The on/off button clicks and stay depressed but you have to hold it down to get the sound to stay on. Also when you first turn it on you have to hold the volume up button till sounds comes up to an audible level.

The simplest thing to do is get the same amp and swap it out. Try one of the larger RX-7 dismantlers.

 

If you find that the S5 amp will work, let me know. I have one sitting on the shelf from my '91 Vert that I would sell for $30.
