Headlights wont come up / turn off

Trust me, I tried using search on the forums AND the interwebs... Found nothing... Maybe poor search words, I dont know, Im sorry.

I recently bought a GTUs, it was missing the headlight switch, so a friend gave me one, not sure if its from an S4 or S5.

everything works, all dash lights, tails, highbeams, highbeam indicator, blah blah blah.

Problem

Headlights wont come up, and wont turn off. (have to pull fuse.)

(also an off-topic problem: my turn signal switch is "wiggle loose" it goes into the dash when you pull on it. Missing a screw? how can I fix this.)

Thank you in advance.

for the turn headlights not popping up, use a voltmeter to make sure that the motors are getting power. If they are not, check and see if the switch is outputting a voltage to make them go up. If power is leaving the switch, then you will have to trace the wire and check each connection to narrow down where the open in the circuit is. If the motors are getting power but not working, check the resistance from the ground circuit of the motor to a known good ground. If the ground is good and it's getting power, your motors may be burned out and you will have to manually raise them.

for the lights not turning off, that is either going to be the switch not turning them off (bad switch), or a short between a wire with 12v and the headlight switch, in whitch case you will again be probing each connector you can find to narrow down where the short is. Unless the headlights are ground switched, then there's probably a short to ground somewhere, but I can't remember whether they are positive or negative switched.

for your turn signals, it's probably the plastic has broken, although it may be a missing screw. To check what it is, you can pull the gauge surround off by removing the 3 screws along the top of it, and two screws along the bottom.

Your headlight relay dictates when your headlights are to come on or not. The relay always has voltage via the Red wire from the engine fuse box and receives the ground from the light switch in the cluster. Since your lights are always on effectively rules out the voltage side of the equation and focuses directly on the ground wire. Either the ground wire is grounding out constantly due to a frayed wire or because your light switch is malfunctioning. The ground wire is W/L.

The headlight motor/retractor also receives voltage constantly via the W/G wire. Checking this wire for voltage will provide you with further insight to where the problem originates. If the W/G wire has voltage then the problem lies elsewhere. The light switch sends a ground to a relay located within the cluster switch which then allows the relay to pass voltage onto either the R/Y wire or the R/L wire. R/Y tells the motor to close while R/L tells it to open. If the ground wire in the switch is not passing the ground properly then the R/Y wire would have voltage and keep the light in the down position. If you turn the switch **** to the up position chances are the R/L wire which should have voltage so as to turn the light upwards will not have voltage but the R/Y wire which shouldn't have voltage at this time will have it thus not allowing the headlight to raise.
