Before you checked for continuity, with the meter on and set to ohms did you place both leads of the meter firmly together to check if your meter gave you a zero reading. If not then do it and respond back with the results. Also, does your meter have multiple settings for ohms or just one? Lastly, is the meter an analog or digital variety?

I did check it and it did go to zero. It is a digital multimeter. As far as multiple settings for ohms, im not exactly sure, the setting i placed it on is what the manual said for checking continuity. It has a buzzer when i touch the leads together.

When you are checking for continuity or even voltage, it is preferable to place the leads of the meter into the back of the plug for it mates up with the contacts that you are trying to read. Did you follow this procedure or did you elect to get a reading off of the part of the pin that is depicted in the pic you provided which is the front part of the plug. Also, I thought Hailers suggested you take an ohm reading between two pairs of wires, namely R and R/Y (**** in down position) in addition to R and R/L (**** in up position). If you have true continuity then your meter should buzz.

ok, i did it wrong, i checked the pin that was in the pic, not the wires. So your saying i need to plug the switch in, and check continuity through the wires and not on the switch side?

If the pins are firmly connected to their respective wires then yes. To get a good reading requires the metal leads to be pressed firmly against the contacts which is kind of hard to do with the pins only.
