Headlight Recommendation

New member - 1st question

Proud owner of 1988 Convertible for the last 11 years.

Recently moved to North Carolina and driving the car more often. Unfortunately the headlights at night are no longer bright enough for me to see clearly. At 61, my night vision is terrible.

Can anyone recommend a replacement headlight with bright illumination? The current bulbs are GE Halogens. I do not remember when they were replaced last.

I am also looking for recommendations on replacement seats. Current seats are blue leather. The leather has decayed badly over the last two years.

Thank you to all for reading and any recommendations.

Thank you,
BIll

I have the Hella E-Code headlamps with H6054E - 60/55W Hella Xenon +50% HL78151 bulbs in my '90 GXL. These are not sealed beams. They are Hella housings with replaceable bulbs. They're working out well for me. Here's where I bought them: https://www.rallylights.com/h6054-he...dlamp-kit.html. They sell a variety of different wattage bulbs, but some of the higher wattage bulbs are not street legal. The E-Code headlamps are European spec and have a slightly different (i.e., higher quality) beam pattern compared to SAE/DOT headlamps. E-Code headlamps also don't have the glass alignment tabs on the front glass surface.

You might want to take your seats to a furniture reupholster and see what they can do for you.

Hot Dog,

Did the Hella headlamps require modification to the original housing or wiring?

Thank you for the recommendation!

No modifications required. They are a direct replacement for the OEM headlamps. The stock wiring is adequate unless you're upgrading to the high wattage 100W bulbs, In that case, the wiring might need to be upgraded.

Here's what I had ordered from Susquehanna MotorSports back in 2018: Hella 1AE 003.427.011 and Hella H4P50. IIRC, they were both direct shipped from a Hella warehouse somewhere in Virginia.
