Headers?

On my 89 I know I have headers, now do these bolt strait to the manifold? Or are they the manifold itself? I want to know since I need to upgrade my damn exaust system and I am planning on changing them if it isn't all that much of a job? If it isn't much of a job what kind of headers do all you guys like and how much are they going for? Thanks for the help

Headers are the manifold, sorta. The stock exhaust manifold bolts directly onto the engine block. Headers, just replace the exhaust manifold(bolting directly to the engine block)however they are longer than the stock manfifold.

You can't have headers. You can only have a header. Headers are for V engines, it takes 2. If you look on the right side of your engine down low you'll see where the exhaust system terminates. If you have two individual pipes coming from the side of the engine you have A header. If you have a cast iron piece with heat shields around it you have the stock manifold.

So....Thanks for the great info, but how much time and labor would it take to remove these and put new ones up? I am not really concerned about it but I want to get a good knoledge on the subject since more time = more difficulty. Thanks for the help

whats wrong with your header? is it broken or rusted? If what youre trying to do is just change your exhaust system then you dont need to change your headers (unless you dont want them anymore and prefer the stock manifold). All you really need is 2 catback exhausts or 1 canister (if youre going single).

Aight,

Is the manifold prone to rusting? I never had any trouble with them before. I plan on puttin up a Bonez Racepipe along with a N1 single on my 89 GXL. I just want to blow flames and emmisions are not really a prob up here since there are no emissions checks. So, I plan on doing this and it will bolt right up to the stock manifold, I am just wondering if these are prone to leaks.

Leave the air pump on if you want to do this.
