I have the HP+ pads on my RX-7 and they will make that squealing noise as well, but not as loud or as long and generally only when cold.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the pads. Shims missing or not installed correctly is most likely the problem. Also, just because a shop deals with High end high power cars does not meand they are always correct.

A brake job on an RX-7 should take no more than 1/2 and hour for everything. It takes longer to take the wheel off than replace the pads.

The HP+ should not be marketed as an AutoX pad. They are a track day pad and only work their best at higher temps rarely seen in a 45-60 second run.

I also have expierenced serious brake fade in the rears from running track pads in front and OE pads in the rear. It is flat out dangerous on a race track to do so.

For street and AutoX either use Hawk HPS or Porterfield R4S.

Well some guys I know have a CSP prepped Miata and on the smaller 1.6 rotors with some 13" 710's they lost the ability to lock the wheels under braking, so they put in some HP+'s and regained that ability. They're really not a great track day pad, because when you start to push hard they'll green fade on you which is really bad and can lead to a crash. I've read that they do it quite suddenly.

I quite like my Porterfield R4 race pads. I've street driven them a bit and they've got decent cold bite, they don't squeal too badly (less so than those) and are great on track. I'd reccomend those before HP+'s for track work as they'll still be ok when you get better and move up to R compound tires.

I think it is highly dependant on the track. I know that running HP+ at Hallett it takes a few laps before the brake bite is there. I am also running on Khumo Victoracers or Toyo RA1. Same brakes on AutoX I do not have the same braking on the 1st run as I do on the 8th (Not tire heat related). I have run the HPS on the same car and they definately worked better for AutoX then the HP+.

I completely agree the Porterfields are a better pad. Ran those on a 944 turbo and was very impressed. Only problem with them is $$$$$

Actually if you look at Mazdatrix the prices on the R4 are quite reasonable, about the same as Hawk Blues or Blacks, and the prices on those are pretty comperable to what they sell for elsewhere. They're definetely on the cheap end of the price spectrum, I mean have you seen the prices on things like Raybestos pads? Sure they're more expensive than HP+'s, but they're a better pad.

How about the R4Ss? They'r $20 more a set than the HP+s, but how's their performance and streetability (more dust and wear than noise... a little noise is OK imo)

Enless pads are for JDM wannabes who have money to waste.

They're $300 a set for street pads!
