has anyone ever had the winking headlight sindrom
every once an a while my right headlight goes insane and goes up and down up and down, for like 3 min than stops. has anyone else seen this???

No, it can't be an open circuit.  If it was an open circuit, it wouldn't do anything at all.  The headlight retractor motor works by +12VDC to go up and -ground to go down.  If you've ever tried to raise the headlights manually (**** underneath) without killing the headlight motor power (via fuse), the bitch slams shut on you; the system is still seeing -ground.  So to trigger the headlights to close, you need a -ground signal somewhere, which implies it's a short to -ground.
