hard time starting my 88 rx7

I just bought a 88 RX7. The guy a bought it from said there was a fuel leak, but he had had the car running. I came to find out an injector o-ring was damaged. I changed it then found out the injectors were no good.I have changed all four. I have tried all the unflooding procedures without success. I've changed the spark plugs and have good spark. The plugs are always wet when i remove them, so i'm getting fuel. This is my first rotary motor. I'm not sure how long it's been sitting for. Should the fuel pump turn on when the key is in the on postion? Mine doesn't. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fuel pump is not on with key on UNLESS you first jumper the little yellow 2-pin plug near the AFM/ boost sensor area...

Did you install the same flow/type fuel injectors?

Sure sounds like a simple flooding problem. Dry the plugs off, crank her over a couple of times with the plugs out & the EGI INJ fuse pulled (engine bay fuse box). Then reinstall everything & try again...

There are several variations on deflooding procedures- do a quick search, you'll find lots of info...

the injectors were red top's denso 195500-1350 was the number on them, I put in the same type. I've tried deflooding with the plugs out and in, with the fuse out with no success. I've tried deflooding at least a dozen times. i'm getting 37 psi in the fuel rail. when i retry the plugs are soaking wet ever time. any other ideas?

How many miles? I parked an '87 (I bought it new) with 175K miles because the compression had fallen to the point that the 'fire' would no longer light. It ran all summer, then when the fall came, and the temperature dropped, the injection would actviate the enrichment circuit for a cold weather start. The extra fuel would wipe the oil film off of the rotor housings, and it was j u s t enough of a compression drop to keep it from firing. The only answer was a rebuild. Check your compression. Good Luck

I agree. I think that it's a compression issue.

if it was compression would it not have been running shitty... unless the guy lied to you... it could also be somekind of intake problem...? need more info on how the car was before you got it... Like did it run rich or lean..

I've checked the compresson and come up with 20psi on the front two plugs, 70psi on the back two plugs. So I'm guessing that a rebuild is in order. What's involved in a rebuild. Is it just gaskets and apex seals or is that just wishful thinking.

I'm not sure what the compresson should be but with that much difference i'm assuming it's bypassing or not building enought compression.

Why don't you try the ATF trick on it? Then after it starts and runs awhile, you can do another compression check on it. My car kept flooding out, and I have done the ATF trick 2 times since I have had it. Now it seems to be running fine except for my radiator leak now.

Good luck.

thats gone way out the gate bro, anything below +- 80 psi on any plug either rotor and its due for a rebuild. Yea sure you could just do a basic rebuild, if housings etc. are in good condition, but you have the chance to dive into porting, using stronger apexs seals (2mm vs 3mm?) its up to you but i would suggest that while the engine is stripped down to consider all your options. Good Luck!
