hard to start/poor idle
Hi im new to this forum, from australia
Im having trouble with my 87 series4 turbo rx7, it wont start sometimes, cranks over and tries to go but wont.
This happens most when warm, but does when cold too. Once its running it drives ok and does not blow any smoke at all. But it does idle 'bounce' between 750 and 1500rpm.
I have read through and found the idle could be TPS and will try the adjustments could this have something to do with the poor starting too??
I recently bought the car and have changed the spark plugs. Motor is stock with only 4in after cat converter exhaust and has fuel cut defender, boost guage and in dash boost controller but is running around 0.5-0.9 boost under load.
any help would be great
thanks dave

When the TPS is telling the ECU the throttle is closed, and revs go >1500 you get a fuel cut untill they drop back.
That's how you get zoom zoom zoom.
So your TPS may be working perfectly.
Besides a vac leak it could be a stuck BAC or AWS solenoid.

Also make sure your timing is correct - this could cause a hard starting condition, and just because it runs doesn't mean the timing is right, or even close to right. You'll need to jumper the initial set connector to do this, which should also keep the RPMs down low by disabling all ECU outputs. If you jumper the connector and the RPMs still bounce, you most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere. If the idle suddenly gets rock solid, clean the various idle control solenoids. One of them is most likely sticking somewhat.
