I painted mine, gunmetal grey. I'm pretty happy with them.
I'm sure there's a tutorial around in the Archive somewhere, but here's the jist of it:
Use Talstrip II Aircraft Coating Removal (Availble from any auto parts store), spray that on. This will eat away the factory wheel coating. Wash + Scrub off, repeate as necessary to get all of the coating off.
Paint as many layers of Wheel/Rim paint as you feel are required for adequate coverage. I used Duplicolor Rim Paint and did 2 coats per wheel, i think.
Spray on a minimum of two layers of Wheel/Rim clearcoat, I again used Duplicolor. This will ensure they stay looking good.
Here's a picture from a few days ago, It was actually of my Miata that I had just got done polishing/waxing, but you can see the 7's rim in the background. Oh, BTW: The Miata's Rims were done in the same fashion, but where it was shiney/polished from the factory, I went over it with 0000 Steel Wool to shine it up before I clearcoated it. If you want a polished lip look on your rims, just do the same.
Cheers!

Seriously though, refinishing them works well. I've seen them chromed/polished and painted as said above. I've seen black, white, grey, body colour - whever you like.
One thing that makes them look better is spacers. Pushing the wheels out a bit really improves the look of the car's stance, and makes the wheels seem like they fit better.

most auto parts stores sell aluminum polish, Blue Magic is a really good choice. get some of that, some terry cloth towels, and a few q-tips to reach in where the stamped markings are on the wheels. take your time, don't rub vigorously. you will be amazed by the results.
