Guys, I'm Feelin Down

I just wanna start out by saying I read these forums EVERY DAY!! My baby was in an accident 4 weeks ago, and 2 weeks ago she was in another.. both weren't my fault but because the weather was bad i'm kinda gettin screwed by insurance.. I have a Blue 88 Gx, she's all stock and to be honest, she isn't very fast. I won't bore you with the details of the accidents.. yet =o)
but, I'm feelin pretty down, when the second accident occurred i was like wtf, i'm a $#%@ magnet, and as i looked at my car.. she's pretty banged up and because the insurance is screwin me over, money's gonna be comin outta my pocket.. The first accident alone was estimated at 2200 and that was my rear.. the second accident was in the front and my car was idling funny when i drove it home and just didn't sound healthy, that was 2 weeks ago, it's been sitting since the weather was horribly cold.. i started her up yesterday.. nothing, the batteries shot, something is shorting out and i haven't got a clue what.. I was hit on the driver front quarter and we're thinking it's something to do with the lights..

But my question is.. what's more important? Loyalty or Quality? I love my car.. she isn't fast, she drinks gas and she's got some rust.. but everytime i see her she makes me smile.. and i'm sure alot of you know the feeling.. To fix her up might cost more than she's worth and i could probably get another 7 that's in a bit better condition than mine.. Do i let my baby go or do i keep her and fix her up.. I just don't know what to do.. Anybody have any helpful personal stories they wanna share? Rx7s RuLe!

I hope i do this right.. (first timer)

I bought her for 3G's.. getting 1100 for the first accident.. insurance went 50/50, estimated repair for the rear was 2200, my mechanic said he could do it for 1600.. the second accident I'm still waiting to see.. I was at a red light when 2 cars crashed infront of me.. the guy who got hit slid into my front end, the first guy didn't have insurance, the second guy slid through a red light due to icy conditions.. I don't know who's fault it is and i really don't care, i just want my car lookin pretty again.. but i just don't want to get screwed so i have to see who to go after to get my car fixed, i really don't want to sue the first guy, 2 reasons, i just don't have the tenacity to do that to him and secondly, it's such a hassle with lawyers and the wait time.. anybody else had to deal with a situation like this? i could really use some advice!

Are you going to be getting money from the insurace companies? If you are then I would probally put it towards another 7. Unfortunately our cars are not worth much and it may be better off. Either way good luck and keep us informed what you end up doing.

Want some advice? First off, since it seems both the accidents were not really your fault(ESPICALLY not the 2nd one, since they hit YOU) I would reap all the money I can from that company. I would even get as much money as I could from the un-insured guy...threaten him with a small claims lawsuit for damages. He has no insurence, its HIS fault.

2nd, take that money, come down to the south and buy a nice RX7 with a bad engine. They're CHEAP and body's are pretty much everywhere. Then swap your stuff into it. Not the BEST way to do it...but you won't have rust anymore, and you'll have a nice looking car again.

Any US car you try to bring into Alberta must be at least 15 years old (from date of manufacture, not model year) and able to pass provincial safety inspection.

Believe it or not 'verts are cheap down here in California, and 2nd gens seem to be a dime a dozen across the board.

Yea, I'd fully support the body/engine swap. Go find another rex and swap it over. You can still find other dead rex's in alberta, or even BC. Dead engine rex's go for nothing usually. Is yours a auto?

Standard all the way!! I think the thing that's costing the most is the paint blending.. what i'm thinkin is just to have the body repaired but not blended,.. save up and get a full paint job when spring comes..

I'm gonna contact the mazda dealership come monday to find out how much diagnostic tests and compression tests will cost me.. see what i can do to figure out if anything happened to my engine..

Anybody do a paint job by themselves?? i'm thinkin of attempting it! kekeke...

ps.. how do i post a pic? =oP

hey i felt the same way about my 86 gxl. love that I can't stress it enough how much I love it. it to had front end damage. i fix that but never got around to painting it. talk about a nickle and dimer. every week i had something else break on it. i finally sold it for $800 bucks
and used it for a down payment on a 1990 covert. so happy I did it. and I can't stop the girls that want a ride everytime I see them. nothing has never broke on this car yet even had some money save finally. because that other car kept braking down on me so I never could save up enough money to put some power in my car.
so heard you heard my story, and so my advice to the people that have this same problem. dish the nickle and dimer and go with something newer, or with less problems..

Good luck to you all

Andy

I hate to say it, but get a truck. Just do it it, get a slow ***, piston powered, reliable truck!

I have spent 1000's upon 1000's on my 10AE, its still not where I want it to be. Get a daily driver, and then spend money/time on the RX. I **** you not my friend, ditch the rotors untill you have a leg up .. then resume.

I spent way to much money on my car, and my daily RX caught fire, I was driving a FULLY modded, -11 Sec. RX to work everyday, it killed me. Get a daily, then drive the RX, trust me. I can't even drive my RX at nite, its 2 fukin loud how stupid is that. I will smoke any car on the road, "if I could drive it", it's 2 F-in loud ... to even start in the morning or drive at nite. Fast ya, smart ... Never.
