Unhappy GTUs Troubles

I've posted a few times, but I keep losing my internet providers, so my inability to post here sooner has seriously screwed me. My '89 GTUs is on the outs, I think. First, it runs far too rich, as you can smell the gasoline scent strongly from under the hood. Secondly, it idles very rough and seems to be missing, if it were a piston motor. It used to idle at spec RPMs, but now it stays around 500 RPM, and does it very, very roughly--as if it were cammed heavily. Mazda in Houston said the motor was shot after me driving it there (30 miles) and them doing " thorough inspections" and "compression tests." They nailed me with 169.99 bill for doing those two minute chores. I don't belive that the dealership I went to had one single person who had a lick of rotary sense.

I ask ye rotary gods for help.

Smell gasoline from under the hood? doesn't that signal a leaking pulsation damper?

If they did a compression test and told you the motor was done, it probably is...

It's hard to screw up a compression test, if the seals are dead on one rotor it can still spin but won't burn the gas, so you can keep it running it just sucks.. hard to believe it would idle like yours does though. You can do your own compression test to see for yourself.

PM me if you end up selling the chassis hehe.... otherwise yeah you're looking at a rebuild probably. Other things that could cause that would be a lot of things, but do the compression check or find out what the results were from the mazda one before you try to diagnose anything else.

Could be a vacuum leak at the injectors, or a vacuum leak and a leaking PD..
