Ground Control problem

Ok, I have yet to drive my car other than just around the block. I’ve been trying to find out where this clunking noise was coming from near the front suspension. I tightened every bolt at least twice and replaced the few items that I thought were fine with new parts just see if it would help. Well nothing worked, I tried to get in touch with Ground Control but they just stopped helping me. Well the problem was staring me right in the face the whole time. I had Ground Control machine the tops of my struts (KYB AGX) so that they would fit the camber/caster plates but if you look real close at the pictures you will see that the threads don’t go down past the spherical bearing in the camber plates. So even with the spacer, lock washer and nut torqued down to 1 million foot lbs. there is still a gap. Every time the suspension moves it clanks here.

Now I really don’t want to take it all apart again, so I’m thinking I could just drill out the inside of the “spacer” just enough so that it sits on the spherical bearing and NOT on the top of the strut shaft. That should allow me to tighten them down.

Or I could just try to find a rubber washer to put under the spacer.

Looking for some ideas so fire away…..if I have to I guess I’ll pull it apart AGAIN.

Those spacers shouldn't be hard to find... dont use a rubber washer. Seems to me if the spacer was solid metal to begin with why should you put rubber underneath it it'll just have unwanted up/down play. Granted a thousandth of an inch but still... worse case use a thick washer. This is not a big deal...

I dont have camber plates but my Ground Control adjustable springs didn't have great instructions the way they had you setup the spring perch in the back was just stupid. I made it work better with the same parts. I love em and I doubt you'll find better quality elsewhere but sometimes I doubt they really have a development team do a lot of labor designing kits for every kind of car.

I took the spacer that came with the kit and used my dremel to cut a chamfer ito the bottom I.D. I cut it just big enough to fit over the lower part of the shaft. That fixed it, no more clunk.

I have a set of KYB AGX dampers that I want to use with Ground Control coil overs and camber plates like your setup. I was told on the phone by Ground Control before I ordered the damper set that their camber plates would work with the AGX struts without modifications of any kind. Could you please explane why you had to cutt down the piston of the strut, this has got me a little worried since I already spent the money and want to run the GC stuff.

With the older style caster/camber plates, you had to machine down the top of the agx struts to fit. The p/o did this on my car. They might have redesigned it in the 5 years since he bought them, though.
