Thumbs down green growing stuff on leather seats

thats right somethings growing on my brother black leather seats. ITs a 1990 t2 red. Is been a few years and I am allways telling him to clean them up and put some protectant on them but he never listens.

At the moment theres something greenish.. I would say moss or fungus. The car stinks like *** or something so it could be mildew. I don't have a digital cam so those that want pics are assed out.

If theres something out there that can clean them up please let me know. thanks.

OH MAN that sounds pretty gross! It sounds like fungus but I could be wrong. Check your local car FAQ. The archives on this site might have something worth checking out too.

It's freaking mold... Disgusting...

2 oz of original Woolite mixed with 1/2 of water in a bucket. Start scrubbing with a very very soft brush or sponge. Then wipe with a clean wet towel, make sure you rinse the towel every now and then. Better hurry because mold is quite dangerous.

I suggest steam cleaning the interior also...

he's probably smoking it, that's why he won't get rid of it.

Just wait till he gets sick. If ppl won't listen then the only solution is for them to learn the hard way.

how does mold even grow? like if its dirty and no one was actively using the car or something? i always thought mold just like grows like that when you don't use the seats for a looooooong time..

if you have high moisture with little freshair/air circulation then you'll have weird **** growing in NO time.

hot showers and no windows open will cause mildew if not cleaned.

Heaters on, in a sealed house when it's freezing, will create moisture that gets trapped inside and will cause mold.

a leak in your car will increase the moisture inside and if it's not cleaned/ventilated it will cause some weird growth.

The only problem is that some mold is very toxic and can cause severe allergies.

If it is green it is probably not mold, but rather algae's or fungus.

thanks for your sarcasm.

its been a few years since the car has been cleaned and its been in storage for a while. He sold me his house and he left behind his cars. I want to help him maintain them. He will not let me have the keys so that I can at least turn them on every month.

My main concern is the cushion and the amount of time everything has to grow. I wonder if I will have to rip everything out and toss **** away.

I can not get you pic because i do not have a camera.

It does sound like mold.... and you can get very very sick from it. I am a pro auto detailer and see this alot. You have to make sure that you completly take apart the seat... take the cover off of the foam. Mold will start growing from the inside of the seat not from out to in. If you see mold then it is way deeper than the surface!! Take the seat apart and rinse the foam for a bit like outside with a hose and use soap. It is best to let it dry on a hot sunny day because covered up water in a foam seat or any water based liquid will cause mold to grow. So let the seat fully dry and also clean up the cover and you should be all good. What you see on the surface you can just wipe off but it is what is under the surface that is the problem. A good way to describe it is like rust.... the rust on the surface of paint can be sanded and stuff but rust starts very deep(paint wise if you see it) and unless you get it all it wiil keep comin back to haunt you!! You will not have to throw **** away.... it can be eliminated!! Hope this helped!!
