I remounted the bumper support--had to cut the two steel brackets nearly in half so that they cleared the intercooler and I had to trim the support itself.
I'm sure there's such a thin amount of support left that it wouldn't do much of any good in the event of any bump, anyway, but that's good to hear. I'd also bet that the bumper support is restricting what little air flow could otherwise get to the top of the core. I have no clue why they made that damned thing so tall...it doesnt need to be half as tall as it is. Without cutting your bumper clear up to the hood, you can't make use of half of the core size.

Has anyone in this thread used an a-w? I'm looking for something better than stock, but efficient.

Thanks rxse7en for your answer! When I get mine I will put the bumper reinforcement back too. I will trim it the way the instructions say. Do you have any pictures of the actual trimming? Its helps to see it in an actual photo and not just in a drawing...

I don't know how much more efficient the GReddy 2 row can get, the pressure drop is really no worse than stock (maybe 2 psi max).

Is there a way to just buy the piping and TB adaptor only?

I was thinking of fitting in a smaller IC core thats not as tall. Its not like I'm going to buy a new big mouth body kit or hack up my front bumper skin with more holes. Plus, it'd be nice to keep my bumper support. Anyone done this before? What do you guys think?

Really? Oil is supposed to run hotter than coolant? Right now on my n/a with an E-fan I see water of 180-190ish and oil about 170-180ish never higher than that, unless it is extremely hot and its a lot of stop and go traffic on the freeway or something. But even still, my oil is never HIGHER than water, it may be the same sometimes but never higher. Oh and this is running with about a 60/40 water to anti-freeze ratio too. Any chance it could be because I'm running synthetic 20w50? Not sure, just asking.

Yes, in most cases oil runs warmer than coolant, not by a lot. It takes a bit of driving for the oil to heat all the way up...if you stay in the very low rpms, it'll never exceed coolant temp. With r's over 3500rpm, you'll see oil temps rise quite a bit...when you're pushing the car, such as hard driving or track driving, oil temps will be quite a bit higher, consistently, than water temps. In my experience.

Just idling in the driveway or cruising at lower speeds will not get the oil temps up much at all...oil temps are pretty much related to rpm's and the amount of heat in combustion that it absorbs from the backside of the rotor face. Though combustion occurs at all times, it is much cooler at cruise and idle and light throttle than it is at WOT or higher rpm's.

Here's a shot with the bumper back on. Kev's right, it covers nearly half of the intercooler--though there is about 1.5" between them for airflow.

Here you can see where I cut the bumper bracket nearly in half. It removes one mounting location and leaves two.

One more shot. Here you can see how the piping "JUST" fits--with a little tweaking--around the PS lines. Also note the fuse box and coil relocations--well, you can't really see the coil relocated.

I loosened the nuts, pulled the retaining collar down and just turned them a couple of inches out of the way. Tightened them back up after the IC was in. I can take some more shots tomorrow. On deadline for a couple of projects right now.

I can get you measurements when I get home for the core. I also can put it up against my broken s5 front bumper to show how much is being covered up. Bump the thread if I forget.

I took some measurements and posted in another thread a while back. I'll just copy and paste my old post.. :

On the subject of IC weight, I just got my Greddy V-spec FMIC kit in today. The core itself is right about 16.5 lbs.

The core dimensions are :
23.25" long
11" tall
2.75" thick

The overall length of the intecooler from endtank openings is 34.5"

My bumper reinforcement is not the same as yours. Mine has also another two holes in the middle and its metal. I think yours is made out of thick fiberglass or am I wrong? Mine looks exactly the same as the one in the greddy manual. Maybe its because its not a US spec FC.

Thanks again for the nice pictures.

Thank you both....I want to use the opening efficiently.....so I want one that fits nicely and avoid the need to cut anything. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the dimensions. Hmm...looks like I'll need to find an IC thats about 6 1/2 - 7 inches tall. Hey Stan, when you can get the height opening of the mouth on the S5 bumper, let me know, thanks.

No prob but the previous owner did the cutting.

Thanks for the pics. It gave me a good idea of how big the IC really is compared to the bumper.

Oh yeah, Oil Temp Increase are far more prevalent! What I found that dramatically appealed to the Engine Bay more was when I cut a small section off the pipe that leads to the Throttle Body...It looks ten fold better...I couldn't stand having the 90 degree bend stick up as high as It did.
