Hey has anyone tried to put grease fittings in the stock U-joints?My brother-in-law has found me some grease fittings that you can hammer in after drilling a hole for them.I think I'm going to see if it can be done on my old driveshaft that the front U-joint is trashed in.I'll let you know how it works out.It may not work but they're only 50 cents each and that driveshaft is useless anyway.Oh I don't think grease will fix that driveshaft but if it can be done I can get one from a junkyard and put the fittings in it and grease them and maybe it will last longer than the 10 or 12 months that the one in the car now from the junkyard has lasted.

 

The driveshaft isn't useless

The U-joints are replacable. Despite the brainwashing Mazda has done over the years to everyone, there are aftermarket U-joints available for 2nd Gen RX-7s.

I know, b/c I replaced my U-joints in my 88 SE.

If this grease fitting idea doesn't work that may be my next route 'cause I don't have the money for the Mazdatrix one.How hard were the old U-joints to get out?

 

Do the stock u-joints have the internal passageway for grease to flow through? Putting in fittings won't help unless the joint have the passagways.

 

I just replaced my drive shaft with the Mazda Trix shaft.
What a difference in noise reduction and vibration. Those
joints must have really been dry !!

 

I have wondered about this as well because they don't look very thick in the middle.Well I should know before too long after I drill a hole in one to put the fitting in.I'll keep you guys posted.
