Got a new exhaust

Just got a new exhaust for my 90 turbo II. I had an old school HKS one(some people say it was the old racing beat one) with a custom 3 inch pipe from the turbo back. Now I have the A'PEXi n1 and man does it sound mean.... other mods in sig.....

You'd better get some earplugs before you go on your first long term highway trip at 70 MPH!!!!

Oh I know, I figured that I would get the silencer before I go on a road trip. I've heard some sotries about some people getting on it while the silencer was on and ended up blowing the motor. So I know not to do that.

Its loud when you have straight 3 inch all the way back... But it isn't like ear plug loud.

I know. Try putting them on a N/A that is that way, you will have a new perspective on what "loud" is.

When I had them on my old 88 vert with the bonez race pipe it was impossible to talk to the person in the passange seat while cruizing on the freeway.

Hehe I know what you mean about the NA's.

I have a 88 GTU with Bonez Superflo DP and Cat and then Corksport Single 2.5 to 3inch.

That thing was so loud I could hear it idle inside my house and I have Stucco walls!

I am hoping that with the new turbo engine it will be quiter even though I am running RB DP and Presilncer to the Corksport.

The turbo itself acts a bit of a muffler, so its helps quiet it down.

Exactly.... but that is a big understatement. The Turbo muffles it ALOT. It is like night and day. I would get pulled over while driving normal with that set up. I would set off every car alarm within a 50 for radius when I just started it up. Stupid loud.... I loved it.

A stock S4 turbo might be a fairly good muffler, but anything bigger than the stock S5 turbo (like most of us have when looking into full 3" systems) will not be a muffler. The TO4B series is a good example of not having any muffling effect.

I have an s4 na with cats gutted and some ghetto almost straight through mufflers that the previous owner put on and it's really loud but my mom likes it because she always knows when I'm home but we put some insulation in the back around the spare tire and stuff to help a little.

actually my roommates n1 on his 88 tII sounds wicked at idle but it's no worse than my mindtrain setup on my NA once you get over 3k. can't imagine it would be that much worse than a racing beats system unless you took the cat's out

Yeah, it sounds nice and deep at idle, but when you get into boost and my tial wastegate opens up(which is dumped into the exhaust) it get high pitched.

My street ported NA sets off car alarms on stock exhaust....

I'm weary about getting a new exhaust set-up because of the terrible sound it may produce...
