Talking Got my V8 RX7

And Im loving every minute of it!
88 se with TII brakes. Its got a mild 350 out of a 79 Z28. Considering how mild the motor is the car is f'n fast as ****.
It sounds bad *** too. I don't notice any handling disadvantages in a real world situation. Ill post some pics soon.

Im gonna leave it bone stock for now. I'll tell you, this thing screams! Im really kind of intimidated by how fast this car will be once I do a few things to the motor. I'll wash it and post some pics. Maybe I'll get some video footage or sound wav's or something. Something about seeing my FC but hearing a v8 rumble gets my blood boiling.

255's aren't enough? I've heard you can squeze 285's in the back without cutting anything.

There's this point where you have so much power that it doesn't matter how much rubber you have. :p

Anyway, congratulations and enjoy it.

Its got a powerglide. Not much of a cruising tranny with the 3.90 rear and only 2 gears. Its a drag racing tranny pretty much. Bad ***

look into the turbo hydramatics...you should be able to find a junkyard th-350, or preferably a th700-r4 (aka 4L-60e) in a junkyard for relatively cheap...make sure it is the vacuum controlled, though, not the electronic one...have fun, and be careful...

btw: does the car have a roll cage? you might need one to keep it from twisting like a pretzel...

Well I am going to put a roll cage in for safety reasons, but you would be suprised how much torque the FC chassis can handle. In fact I know a guy who has run 10's in his v8 powered RX with a non turbo rear end, slicks, and no chassis modifications! Im really not sure what kind of numbers I will get out of the car, but it should be in par with an FD(mid 13's). I may have a bad *** intake manifold, carb and headers, but the heads and cam are quite mild. I will eventually get a high perf. cam, roller rockers, 202 heads, and some higher compression pistons. That should be about 325-375hp, which outta land me into the low 12's high 11's easy. The motor should also be able to rev out to 7 grand, which is cool because the stock tach has been calibrated for a V8. My main concern is traction and safety. I will update my sig with all of the mods it already has. There is some pretty trick ****.

Yeah...

IF THERE ARE ANY FLAMES OR NAME CALLING IN THIS THREAD IT WILL BE SHUT DOWN

Debates are fine, and so is pointing out what you percieve as "shortcommings" of a particular setup. Just keep it from degrading into a pissing match or a flame war. I know how threads like this tend to get. The people who become involved will be given a warning should it come to this.

Lets keep it a nice exchange of information.

Just a warning.

If you need help setting up your motor, let me know...I've done more SBC's than you can shake a whole bunch of sticks at...

btw: the setup you're talking about running (without getting into specifics) should (or at least could) put you over 400hp if you set it up right...

Theres a guy here in town, that has a 1st gen with a 350 in it. I asked him what he thought about the difference between the 2 motors (he had a hopped up rotary) and he said 'He couldnt hold it on the road, not enough rubber LOL

Gotta remember I live in Kentucky and when someone here is bored they do stuff like this all the time.

Theres a convertible old MG running around here with all cammed up 350, and a super charger! No ****, its tubbed out so bad in the back, looks like both tires would almost rub LOL

Hey Mike P., where you live at in KY? I live in Louisville myself. I don't own a RX7 but may be buying one in the near future. And a V8 swap would be awesome. Are you going to run it at Ohio Valley, or another drag strip to see what it can do???

Hey Maverick, Im from Owensboro. Im a watcher not really a racer. Lack funds for serious horsepower, and I dont really enjoy stripping the rotary on a monthly basis LOL

There are a few RX-7 here for cheap!

Theres a guy here that has one, that needs a little work for like 400 bucks. I know of another 85, with a new motor, new exhaust, clutch and some other goodies for 1000...

Here is a link to a page that has my car on it. If you scroll down a bit you will see the charcoal grey one. Thats the car I bought, minus the 450hp motor. The motor looks exactly the same, just doesnt have the pretty AFR alluminum heads. I have been to busy lately to take any pics. But I will soon.

Doesn't really give you a good look at the hood scoop. Its off of a mercury capri. Looks real similar to a TII hood scoop, its just a little taller and alot wider.
